TWSBI Eco Fountain Pen Holder

Dev Diary

Tuesday 3rd June, 2025

I've refined the pen holder design a little bit. I've decided to just go with TWSBI sized, which is fractionally too small for LAMY pens. But if I make it a little bigger the TWSBI wobbles around a bit and it just feels a bit off.

I can of course make them in two sizes, one for LAMY and one for TWSBI, but ugh, that feels a little weird.

Anyway, I have a plan, which is why I've plotted these ones out in super fine high quality mode. There's a couple of things I want to test and I'm not sure if I can get away with it, or if I need to do a little extra refinement. Hopefully I'll find out in a couple of weeks.

Increased the thickness of the base a bit.

Again, I know this is pretty simple, but at the same time I really love the solid utility of it. It does one thing, hold a TWSBI Eco pen, so fuss, nothing fancy.

A selection of the prototypes. Yes, I did this much experimenting with slightly different sizes and depths.

Four days later and now I have a batch. These are marked as TWSBI 'cause I tried some slightly bigger ones that hold LAMY pens.

I know that LAMY pens are more popular than TWSBI, so the temptation is to have the larger ones, which also hold the TWSBI Ecos just fine, but not a snuggely as I'd like. It's a bit loose, not as neat as it could be. Shame both pens don't snugly fit in.

Here's another holder, which is seven pen holders plotted together. I did this in the end as it keeps them nicely in order and having them staggered means they're less likely to topple over, and it makes putting two rows together very satisfying.

Also very handy for holding the 14 pens I need.

Okay, this may seem a bit dramatic and over the top to have it's own project page. But, I really wanted a simple pen holder 😁

For the "The Sea Howls From The West" I need to quickly switch between 14 fountain pens. It's gotten to the point where they're scattered all over the place.

I figured something like a test tube holder would be good. But at the same time I want the pens to stay "wet", i.e. keep the ink nib end down, and the pen isn't simply circular at the lid end.

So here it is, a minimal pen holder that accommodates the pen clip on the side of the lid.
